Yangming Mind OS: an open system for clearer thinking, decisions, emotional awareness, and self-cultivation

An open, bilingual knowledge system that turns selected ideas from Wang Yangming into practical tools for thinking, decision-making, emotional awareness, and self-cultivation.

It is not a quote archive, a mystical doctrine, or a productivity app. Start with a real situation, use one worksheet, take one observable step, and review what happened.

Wang Yangming (1472–1529) was a Ming-dynasty thinker associated with the School of Mind. You do not need classical Chinese or prior knowledge of Chinese philosophy to use this project.

What makes this different

Many repositories preserve quotations or reading notes. Yangming Mind OS is designed around a practical loop:

The Yangming Action Loop: Know, Align, Act, Reflect

  • Know: What do the facts already show? What remains an assumption?
  • Align: What might anxiety, status, comparison, fear, or avoidance be distorting?
  • Act: Which small, reversible action can produce new evidence?
  • Reflect: What happened, and should you continue, adjust, or stop?

This loop is a project-authored modern framework, not a quotation from Wang Yangming.

Start in three minutes

  1. Write one situation that is happening now.
  2. Separate observable facts from your first interpretation.
  3. Name the emotion or motive that may be narrowing your view.
  4. Choose an action you can begin within ten minutes.
  5. Define visible evidence and a time to review the result.

You can use the files directly on GitHub, in any Markdown editor, or as an Obsidian vault:

Practical tools

The Chinese edition also includes a 30-day practice, annual review, workplace-conflict worksheet, relationship-reflection worksheet, and five filled case studies. Translation contributions are welcome.

Historical text, interpretation, and application

Every substantial concept should keep three layers visible:

  1. Historical text: a short quotation or a precise source location.
  2. Modern interpretation: an explanation written for present-day readers.
  3. Project application: worksheets, questions, and practice suggestions created by this project.

Translations in this repository are explanatory, not canonical. If a quotation cannot be located, it must be marked “source to be verified” rather than presented as authentic. See the citation guide.

Example output

A filled daily reflection example

A useful session should end with an action, evidence, and a review time—not merely an inspiring sentence.

Documentation site

The project uses VitePress because it can reuse the Markdown source, provide local search and bilingual navigation, and deploy to GitHub Pages with a small maintenance footprint.

The current remote repository is not accessible, so the public URL will become live only after the repository is restored, this work is merged, and Pages is configured to use GitHub Actions.

Roadmap

  • v1.0: stable structure, bilingual positioning, sources, core templates, cases, documentation site, and open-source governance.
  • v1.1: a more coherent template system.
  • v1.2: a community case library with strong anonymization guidance.
  • v1.3: broader English coverage and international contribution workflows.
  • v2.0: an optional interactive layer that keeps Markdown portable.

See ROADMAP.md and CHANGELOG.md.

Contributing

Useful contributions include source verification, natural English, usable templates, anonymized cases, Obsidian workflows, link fixes, and clearer explanations.

Read CONTRIBUTING.md, choose a Good First Issue, and keep each pull request focused on one concern.

The project does not buy stars, use bots, or trade stars. Sustainable growth comes from usefulness, clarity, consistent releases, and honest sharing.

Disclaimer

This is an educational reflection project. It is not an official Wang Yangming, Obsidian, academic, religious, medical, mental-health, legal, financial, or human-resources service. Do not use a worksheet as a substitute for qualified help in high-risk situations.
